Lac Simon Property Owners Association

Following the study of the septic systems on l’Île du Canard Blanc undertaken by the municipality this summer, the Lac Simon Property-owners’ Association (LSPA) took the initiative to organize those islanders interested in participating a request to tender for the services of a technician who will, initially, determine the type of installation required. This first request will be followed by a second step, that of a request to tender for the work required to install the septic systems recommended.

Coordinated by Mr. Jacques Chevalier, an island resident and a new member of the Administrative Council of the LSPA, this act of citizens mobilizing to resolve their waste water problem and thus protect our lake’s environment has been a great success. About twenty islanders have joined the group and will soon get a soil evaluation and installation plan, this with the oversight of Mr. Roy, the Municipal Inspector in Construction, Environment and Urbanism.

The Lac Simon Property-Owners’ Association (LSPA) is concerned about the significant increase in municipal taxes for lakeshore property-owners and the subsequent impacts on a segment of the population. Many residents have contacted us to voice their fears that these continued increases will force them to sell their properties.

The residents most affected by the increasing property tax burden are generally people who chose, many years ago, to acquire properties on Lac Simon: often, initially as a summer cottage and now as permanent residents. For many years these property-owners have supported local commerce, contributed to the collective wealth of the region thus slowing the economic decline of the surrounding villages. Their consumption of goods and services has enabled the maintenance and creation of jobs in various sectors such as construction, food, health, etc.
