The Conférence régionale des élus de l’Outaouais (CRÉO) is pleased to present this first publication on protecting the region's lakes and watercourses. This reference guide is addressed to Outaouais residents, stakeholders and elected officials, and results from a concerted effort of many partners in the region. It emerged out of the consultations on the drafting of a regional action plan to counter the proliferation of blue-green algae in the region's lakes and watercourses.

Riparian Zone Restoration Project

To Lake Associations and Waterfront Residents,

Beginning this year, the implementation of riparian zone restoration in the watersheds of the rivers Rouge, Petite Nation, and Saumon will serve to fight against the proliferation of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). This action plan is made possible due to financing from the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et des Parcs (MDDEP) Quebec, the Government of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Conférence régionale des élus de l'Outaouais, the Pacte rural of the MRC Papineau, the Commission scolaire au Cœur-des-Vallées, the Caisse populaire Desjardins de la Petite-Nation, the Auberge jeunesse de la Petite-Nation, the Camp Rivière-Rouge and through the support of your municipality and lake association as well as the efforts of the OBV des rivières Rouge, Petite Nation et Saumon (OBV RPNS).

Moratorium on Development of l’Île du Canard Blanc

The citizens of Lac-Simon want to protect their island

The project to build a permanent dock at l’Île du Canard Blanc is put on hold.

At a special information meeting held on Saturday, the Municipality undertook an obligation to perform a study on the capacity of Lac Simon to support further development, in the current year*. Following this decision, the developer has committed to await the results of this study** before continuing his efforts to obtain a permit to build the permanent dock on l’Île du Canard Blanc. He also pledged to respect the moratorium of one year for his proposed development of non-lakeside land lots.
