The shoreline, littoral and floodplain are essential for preserving water quality as well as the ecological functioning of waterways and lakes.
Shorelines play an essential role in the health of lakes and rivers. To ensure that they are adequately protected, the Quebec government as adopted the Politique de protection des rives, du littoral et des plaines inondables (RLRQ, c. Q-2, r. 35). Under this policy, activities that are allowed in these zones are regulated so that the waterway is protected.
Consult the Guide des bonnes pratiques pour l’aménagement des bandes riveraines by Québec Vert (previously the Fédération interdisciplinaire de l’horticulture ornementale du Québec).
